The San Francisco Museum Of Modern Art (SFMOMA) was founded by Dr.Grace Morely and opened it's doors in 1935 on the top floors of the War Memorial building. In 1975 the word "Modern" was added to it's title and moved to it's current location in Yerba Buena Gardens in 1996. The collections consist of Animals, Technology, Landscape, Abstraction and currently artist Frida Kahalo from Mexico will be showing until September. The museum hosts 20 exhibitions and over 300 educational programs. A 14,000 square foot roof top garden is being added and should open Spring 2009 to the public, this will act as "gallery without a ceiling".
The architectural design was done by Mario Botta and is similar looking to "MOMA" in New York, this is why it is nicknamed "SFMOMA".
